Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a massage therapy treatment session?

If you are looking for massage therapy from Healthy by Hamdon, we offer 30 minute, 45 minute, 60 minute and 90 minute massage therapy treatments.

Do I have to see a chiropractor or physiotherapist first before being referred to a massage therapist?

No, you do not. If you only require massage therapy, you may book an appointment with our Massage Therapist anytime.

Do I need a family doctor's referral or prescription first to see a Massage Therapist?

This only applies if your extended health care plan requires you to have a prescription. In general, most extended health care plans do not require this, but there are a few that do. It's best to contact your provider to see if you need a prescription in order to have your Massage Therapy treatment covered by your health care plan.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage therapy does not function just as a means of relaxation but is a great way to enhance any chiropractic, physical therapy, or acupuncture treatment. Regular massage from a registered massage therapist can help with everything from injury, muscle tension, chronic pain, and stress, to posture, high blood pressure, and sleep. What type of massage should I get or do I need?

Either our front end staff or our Massage Town experts could easily suggest the right massage therapy treatment for you to ensure the most comfortable and effective treatment specific to your ailment.

Can I get a massage if I am already in pain?

Yes, with the appropriate pressure, massage treatments can have a direct effect on the circulatory system, which helps reduce inflammation and helps relieve pain. During the session, you are encouraged to communicate with your registered massage therapist about your pain/comfort level at any time during your massage so they can help you appropriately.

What should I do after a session with one of your massage practitioners?

Depending on your medical condition(s) and why we’ve recommended massage therapy as the best treatment for you, our massage practitioners may ask that you do a couple of stretches or exercises after your session.

In general, we strongly encourage that you do the following after your massage session:
• Drink a full glass of water
• Wait around an hour before showering with warm water to allow any essential oils to fully • soak into your skin
• Eat a light and healthy snack
• Avoid high-intensity or strenuous exercise for around 4-6 hours following your session
